Owner:
Kenny Knight

As you enter Mebane Steakhouse, you can’t help but feel history. Kenny Knight, the owner, makes sure of that. Kenny is a native of Mebane, and as do many, has great memories of the restaurant which served as A & M Grill, the most frequented restaurant in the area, from 1947 to 2011. After retiring as an aerospace engineer, Kenny’s dream and mission were to return to Mebane and invest in its future while preserving its history, and he did just that in the build and reopening of the current restaurant, Mebane Steakhouse.

The focal points of the entryway are the beautifully preserved firepits used by A & M as well as the A & M Grill letters that were displayed on the front of the original restaurant. These were a gift to Kenny by local auction owner, John Lambert, who believed they should be preserved with the restaurant. The furniture throughout was made by White’s Furniture and Craftique, local companies known for their furniture throughout the world, and which supported the families of Mebane for generations. The doors leading into the private dining area are from the White family mansion. The White family owned and operated White’s Furniture just a few blocks away from 1881-1993. The centerpiece of the bar is the art deco hood from the kitchen of A & M Grill.

The entire restaurant is filled with attention to detail and history that is attracting not only local patrons but visitors from great distances who want to see and experience the restaurant and its amazing cuisine. The menu offers something for everyone and can be viewed here at Eat Local Triad.

Mebane’s Steakhouse features an outdoor patio, a main dining area seating 160 guests, and a large bar area which seats 100 and has on display ten large flat screen televisions. There is also a private dining room featuring special lighting and a television and computer setup for slideshows and presentations. This room will accommodate 60 guests and is available by reservation.

Kenny knows that by preserving the history of his hometown, he’s investing in its future, while also providing his guests with an experience they will want to enjoy time and time again.
